Dudley and Sam have spent three years working together in the sailing industry. They met working for a charter company in Greece, and have since then sailed across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and worked as Captain and Chef onboard various charter yachts in the Mediterranean and Caribbean. And, as PADI Divemaster’s, they can guide you on an exploration on and under the sea!
Dudley found his passion for sailing in Anglesey, Wales, where he spent the summers racing Lasers. After graduating from University with a degree in Politics, he decided to pursue a career as a skipper. Dudley has work experience in the hospitality industry, including a stint working at a mountain lodge in the French Alps. According to his passport, Dudley is an Englishman, but has spent most of his adult life living abroad. Dudley enjoys running, mountain-biking, skiing and rugby. He is Sam’s right-hand-man in the kitchen, and can make a killer Watermelon Margarita!
Sam spent five years sailing around the world with her family, and after a few years on dry-land, she heard the ocean’s call and found herself back on the high seas once again. She left her Marketing career behind her in New Zealand, and became a yacht hostess. Sam’s creativity is now directed at food, and she is now a passionate chef. When she’s not in the galley, Sam enjoys swimming and scuba diving.
Sam explains “My main goal as a chef is to offer my guests a dining experience that reflects the flavours of local cuisine, with a touch of my own personality. All of my menus are tailored to suit my guests’ various preferences, so I know that what I am preparing is something you will enjoy. I firmly believe that we eat with our eyes first, so I take great pride in presentation. And the best way to make something taste as good as it looks, is by using fresh and wholesome produce. We buy most of our fruit, vegetables and spices down at the markets, and our guests even get to meet the fisherman who sell their fresh fish and seafood. Buying locally sourced produce is really important to me. I like to support the community of people who have invited us to explore their country, and food is the best way of experiencing culture!”
Start the day by enjoying a coffee whilst reading another chapter of that book you finally have time to read! The sun loungers on the foredeck, or a beanbag on the aft deck? By the time everyone is awake, breakfast will be laid out in the cockpit. Our continental breakfast always includes a fresh fruit platter with eggs available made-to-order, though we normally offer a hot breakfast every other day. After breakfast there is always time for a quick dip while we prepare the yacht to set sail for our next destination. Late morning is the perfect time of day to spend an hour or two out on the water. It’s such a unique experience to feel the yacht powering up with the wind. Once everyone’s worked up an appetite again, we’ll be ready to drop anchor in a secluded bay just in time for lunch. Spend the afternoon paddle-boarding or snorkelling, or perhaps try your hand a game of chess. Then as sunset nears, enjoy canapes and cocktails to wind down another beautiful day in paradise. And after a 3-course dinner on deck, everyone settles down for a good night’s sleep before we do it all again tomorrow!
